The LRA

The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) is a sectarian religious and military group in Central Africa. In the past it was based in northern Uganda, but actually it is mainly based in Southern Sudan. The LRA is accused of widespread human rights violations, including murder, abduction, mutilation, sexual enslavement of women and children, and forcing children to participate in hostilities.

The LRA operates mainly in the region of northern Uganda, Southern Sudan, Central African Republic and North East of DR Congo. The LRA is currently proscribed as a terrorist organization by the United States.

In February 2010 a massacre of over 100 people was carried out by the LRA in Kpanga, near DR Congo's border with the Central African Republic and Southern Sudan.
